I am learning

So...I think I will try this blogging thing again.

I started last summer when my wife and I went to Boulder Colorado for the SIMS institute.  It was amazing.  What is even better is that I remember everything.  It was one of my most memorable summers.  Now, we are still in Miami, but traveling a bit.

With my degree program, I need to do a cross cultural internship.  This need to fulfill it has cross paths with the Lord moving to begin a new IBB campus in Weston.  So I am in Weston.

Since 2005, I have been to Weston plenty of times, and have gotten lost in it plenty of times.  It is one big circle that can be a bit confusing.  But I have always come here to vacation, not knowing that people actually live here! Lots of young people live here, and it has an ever growing hispanic population.

I am currently leading Worship, organizing volunteers, planning and scheduling, and various other things for the internship.  While I am here though, I can't help but to refer back to the missionary training I have received before.  Rule number one is simple: know the people and place you are ministering to.

So I am trying to learn.  It is hard to because Weston is a bit far from the Country of Hialeah, in which I reside.  Gas prices are not going down either, but today I have the chance to be here for a bit on a day other than Sunday.  My sister is now working in Weston (another cool thing), and my wife and daughter are away for a women's retreat in Lake Placid (we're about 10 weeks away from meeting Olivia!)

So now I have a bit of time to be here, to observe the people, the culture, and to learn.  I am in the most intimidating place in the world for me...Starbucks.  I never understand the tall and grande thing.  I never know what to order, and everyone else seems so sure of themselves.

So anyway, I think blogging will help to keep these memories dear and to take time to soak up this experience.  So I am learning about Weston and the culture...with my tall (which is short) Mocha something.
